So I want a vacation. This is how I envision my conversation with my boss(es) will be:
"I want a vacation."
"Sorry, we have 983 things going on for the next ten months. So that's a no-go."
"If I don't take a vacation soon, I will have a breakdown and subsequently commit suicide."
"Sorry, we don't really have time to accommodate your 'idiosyncrasies.' "
"I will cite you and this job as the reasons for my suicide in my suicide note."
"Make sure you proofread for typos. Remember that last brief you wrote? Tsk tsk."
"As long as you can come to my funeral."
"We'll see if it conflicts with anything on our calendars."
_______________
Seriously. I think it might go like that.
I'm so depressed.

Hopefully you can get at least a few days off!
Yellow Gal, I think it's seriously time to change careers. Half my lawyer friends have left law or their corporate jobs because of exactly the situation you just described. They are all much happier now.
whatchamacalit, I'm dying to know what your lawyer friends are doing now. Are they still practicing law or doing something completely different?
I need a vacation too.... sigh
Where are you gonna go?
Yellow Lawyer
Thinking Caribbean for sure. May go with the Naysayer. Bahamas? Bermuda? Jamaica? Cayman Islands? Not sure yet!
Yellow Gal, one friend decided to be a writer, another works as a business/marketing manager for a wholesale shoe company (she's so happy about the shoes!) and another went into accesories and fashion buying, now starting her own online business. The only happy lawyer friend I know works as a city prosecutor, cleaning up crime in LA! Good luck getting out one day!
